Artist Statement

War Lilies tells the story of emancipation and vengeance during the Antebellum period. The women are seen with African weapons floating on water lilies. These women are warriors. They are weary of not being seen, being depreciated and are used to provide domestic services for white families.
This piece celebrates the rise of the new woman who is unafraid and unapologetic.
